Greater Chennai Expend boundary up to Arakkonam Taluk - Arakkonam to come under city limits

The Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA) is all set to cover the whole of Kancheepuram district and Tiruvallur districts as well as Arakkonam taluk in Vellore district. 

R. Vaithilingam Minister for housing and urban development. Tuesday made an announcement on the Chennai Mega Region to this effect. 

“A preliminary report to expand the jurisdiction of CMA to 8,878 sq km is being examined by the government,” said Mr. Vaithilingam. 

The existing jurisdiction of CMA covering 1,189 sq km in Chennai, Kancheepuram district and Tiruvallur districts was declared in 1973-1974.

Arakkonam Peoples Said."It's interesting to hear!  we're annexed into Chennai Metro too.and if Arakkonam becomes a part of Chennai, ours will be the only city in India to have bases for all the three wings of defence: Tambaram Air Force Station, OTA and INS Rajali"
